Moving Forward with your Journey

GO ON, AND DANCE INTO YOUR BEST LIFE!

First of all, I commend you for completing this adult Ballet Primer Course.

I created it with a lot of love, and with the intention to ease your journey into ballet. If you took this course, I know it means that ballet is in your heart. I hope that the things you have learned here will inspire you, guide you and motivate you. I am confident that the core of the course has prepared you to partake in adult ballet class. You are equipped with all the knowledge needed, so you should feel very confident in yourself and your ability.

The training and insights I share with you in this course is the result of many years of trial and error, research, and mad devotion to the art form of ballet that has always been a constant in my life. I give my early-life ballet training credit for giving me a winning perspective on life.

Your ballet journey going forward can look a lot of different ways; maybe you will find that adult ballet is your activity of choice to stay in shape. Maybe it will become, overtime, your favorite after-work activity that helps you find your own center and relax. Maybe you will leave other hobbies to concentrate on it and be better at it, or maybe you wont . Either way, now you are equipped with the basic knowledge to succeed when practicing adult ballet. It is up to you to show up and do the work that it takes to get better at it. To help you visualize this, let me present the results of my research so far, I have touched on some of them on previous sections.

  • If you did ballet as a child for 5 years or more, returning to ballet will be relatively easy, you will begin to remember a lot of the structure and steps after a few sessions. How easy it is will also depend on your fitness level.
  • * If you did ballet as a child as a very young age, for 4 years or less, you will most likely not be able to recall most memories from it, and that's ok. You will be learning it anew, using your adult brain, and that has its own benefits.
  • If you have never danced ballet before, congratulations for embracing something so challenging and new. You also will have the advantage of your adult, fully developed brain to process what you learn. The most challenging thing will be learning how to remember combinations and all the new terms. Give yourself time to do this, don't expect .
  • If you do ballet more than once a week, you will see improvement and progress much faster than if you attend only once a week or less. But if adult ballet is something you want to do once a week or less, that is ok too. I have had many athletes in my classes that just need an occasional dose of ballet, for fun, novelty and just to do something outside of their routine.
  • If you embrace the discipline of ballet wholeheartedly and dedicate a good amount of time to it, after a year you could be authorized by your teacher to begin pointe work if you choose. This will be a whole another beginning, and I will talk about it in detail in the next course.
  • Also, if you are consistent with ballet, do not be surprised to get many compliments on your posture and newfound grace. Happens all the time. Be prepared to answer some questions about what you have been doing!.
  • People either love ballet or they don't. Maybe you will inspire some of your friends to join you. But remember, if they find that is not for them, be understanding. Ballet is rigorous and does not appeal to all types of characters.

In sum, if you give it a chance, adult ballet will change your life for the better. Being able to experience the joy of dance is one of the greatest pleasures of life, and learning the discipline that aligns dance with the highest aesthetic principles, makes that even better. So go on, enjoy the journey.

Much, Much Love, dear student!
